FileMaker 15 Released
FileMaker 15 was released on May 10th 2016 and includes a few key new technologies.
While much of the focus was on the mobile end of things, there are some speed improvements along with some convenience features which will make working in FileMaker 15 just a bit more enjoyable!
FileMaker Inc. released version 15 on May 10th. Did you miss the news? If so, then here’s a video which goes through the shortlist of new features.
One of the biggest changes was internal in terms of how FileMaker is saving cached data and layouts. FileMaker is now maintaining more resources after closing files so that opening a solution will seem MUCH faster. This is probably where a significant amount of development effort and dollars were spent.
You know, just laying in some ground work to make things perceptively faster for end users and developers. Now, if they will only give us developers control over local caching on a Layout-by-layout basis!
The number of new features, from a developer, perspective is pretty small. Unless you really need some of the new mobile related features, I’d say the biggest benefit to a FileMaker developer is the nicer colorful icons in Layout mode and the culmination of the various tweaks. Hopefully, the next annual release will contain a ton of wiz-bang features made just for developers. Regardless of meager feature additions, the developer perception when working on a remotely hosted database will be pretty significant!

Concealed Edit Box Copy
On Windows at least, copying data from a concealed edit box is disabled.
My error
Yeah, on the comments on the YouTube video I mentioned that @13:43 I mistakenly said that if you copy the bullets you get the original text. This is not the case. FileMaker ONLY disables the copy option.
It does allow you to still paste, but the information within the field is not obfuscated in any way it is simply obscured.

Concealed edit box (at least on PC)
Hi Matt..
Beautiful review about FMP15 news!!
One thing I tried and it's works at least different (better) on PC and that's the consealed edit box..
I tried to 'not paste' text but enter for example 123456789 and got *********
The copy and cut menu options and even Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C are disabled!!
So I couldnt copy the dots and paste it on a text editor!
The weak point is that when you enter the edit box it's show you as much dots as digits you entered..
Please confirm if it's work different on PC and Mac?
Regards
Ashur
Concealed edit box (at least on PC) update
Hi again
Some further test I find out that you cannot manually Select, copy and paste
But if you use filemaker script step 'copy'
then you can paste it on a text editor!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeak!!
Regards
Thanks and a question
Great overview and intro to 15. I was intrigued as to how you showed your phone on screen, I know it's off-topic but would really appreciate knowing how to do this form own training videos :-)

QuickTime Player does it
QuickTime added this feature a while back. If you have your iPhone/iPad connected via the cable, then you can create a "New Movie Recording" under the File menu. From there you will see the downward arrow right next to the red Record button. Selecting that should present the various input options. One of which will be your iDevice. ;)
